Hi,

I'm seeing quite a number of Canon 24-105L on Craigslist for about $800 in the SF Bay area. It seems a lot of people got these lenses as part of a 5D III kit. Is this a pretty good deal?

The would have been a good deal a while back but now you can get a refurbished 24-105 (external link) from Adorama for $869. Some find refurbished to be better than new.

KEH currently has used ones from $789 to 889 depending on condition.

If you can get the people selling their kit ones to hand over a copy of the receipt from an authorized seller (info blacked out if they want) then that's what makes it come out on top over other options.

UT though. Some of the older ones can have problems with their apertures.

Thanks for the link. Looks interesting. I'll be mindful of the aperture issues.

I sold mine brand new one from the 5dmk2 kit for $825 here on POTN. So $800 is a nice deal. Its is nice sharp lens. I got another one now with 5dmk3 kit.

It's a good deal if you factor in that's an asking price, and they'll probably take a little less.

Considering how cheap it is now its going to make all the upcoming 24-70 II vs 24-105 even tougher :-}. But seriously you can probably get one used for between $700-$800 now. Great lens for that kind of money.

I'm guessing this is smoking deal, but I haven't been pricing them. 70-200L f4 $850 (external link)

Whoa, I'm actually looking for a 24-105 but if I lived in Florida I'd be all over this in a nanosec.

Hi All, I've talk the guy down to $750 on the phone. I'll see him tonight at Starbucks. Now the only gotcha that I can think is that it comes in a "white box". He says its part of a 5D kit (which would be good) or it could be a refurb lens (not quite so good). So, is there something like red dot somewhere which indicates the lens is a refurb. Thanks.

Why refurb no good? If both look good, work good, why one cares.

While we're talking things in the bay, someone just posted a 5D2 for $1250 in Saratoga. 370k clicks so it might need a shutter and/or mirror box replacement coming up but if you're a gambling man it's a price that can't be beat.

Yeah I saw that post as well. 370k clicks... what a work horse, I would rather add another 500$ for a lesser clicks than that camera. That's just my opinion :) good luck to whoever buys it though.
