Hello,

I have a Canon EOS50D and have just found out that the internal flash does not work properly. It does pop up like it should and it does fires when I take a picture, but the picture looks like the flash did not fire at all. No error messages either.
I have gone through all the settings and cant find anything wrong, as the internal flash does not work whatever program mode I'm using. Even in the "full auto" mode it fires but has no effect on image. And I can see it is lighting up the target I'm photographing.
I have tried with new batteries but still the same.

I have an old 430EZ external flash that I had for my old analog EOS10 camera, and today I tested it, and it has an effect the image. It is offcourse too powerfull and I had to point it to the roof or put a paper in front of the flash to lower its effect. But it does work and has an effect on the image.
So it has to be something with the internal flash.

I'm not sure when this has happend since I mostly take pictures outdoors or in good light anyway. I may be better of with an new external flash instead of repair of the internal flash? All other functions on the camera seems to work fine.

The internal flash can be disabled. Not sure if that setting is still in effect if you go to the green box mode, though.

An EZ flash will always flash with full power, unless you set it manually. You need an EX flash for it to work with digital cameras. EZ only work properly with those for film.

Are you sure the flash output hasn't been dialed back using the flash exposure compensation setting? Outside button on the top panel and the back dial to change.
