It depends on how religious your friend or his/her family are. For really religious folks, the only part worth shooting will be the traditional wedding ceremony. The reception will be in two separate sections for men and women. However, majority of tehran population are not that conservative and the reception may very well be like the ones you would see here with the dancing, cake cutting, etc. (no speech/toast though).

Are you the only photographer or are they hiring a professional photographer as well?

Couple of week earlier, I attended my best friends wedding, a Islamic wedding (this was in India, not sure if rituals and arrangements differ between Countries). Although there was a paid photographer but I wanted to capture his wedding to gift him a album....beside creating my own portfolio :-) Currently I'm not a paid wedding photographer.
The occasions which I thought are important to their wedding are
- When the groom arrives for Nikah (wedding) and the elders from the brides side receive them.
- Sitting arrangement of both the sides. Typically they sit in different rooms or with a partition
- If they are 'open', then you can click brides picture while getting ready. A typical Muslim bride looks gorgeous in her wedding dress, so you can click her alone if they allow.
- Signing of the Nikah....this is the most important part and then when they tell the prophet that they agree for wedding....typically an elderly person will whisper in the ears of bride for her to speak out 'I agree'....this is another occasion.
- After this its typical reception (Walima) where you can click the normal shots.
Note: Do not barge into the female sitting section without permission, few families are very particular about who should enter where. Also do not click picture of unknown Muslim women. Their males can become offended.

550D gripped I Sigma 50mm F1.4 (Non Art) I Canon 100mm F2.0 I Nissin Di622 Mk II I YN 622C triggers I...and few other accessories

Thanks. I got the same idea, my wedding gift will be a gift certificate for a photobook.

I will write it down to a to do list now.
