Shot at a Jr Lifeguard Champoinship tournament on the Island of Oahu (Ala Moana Beach). The competition was FIERCE to say the least...50+ pics on my blog. Links in my Sig

Ditto to what rick_reno said, brutal on the ladies as well as the camera...

But very nice action captures.
2 questions if you can throw some more light to:
* how did you protect the camera / lens. I purchased a lens with questionable IQ just so that I don't have to carry any expensive lenses / cameras on the beach. And your pointers will help
* Lighting - did you do anything to control / shoot in raw?

Sure

I had all the gear listed in my sig with me that day and I used most of it on the beach. This shot was taken with my Tokina and believe it or not...a very little amount of sand hit my gear. I guess I pulled out at the right moment...Haaha

I shot in RAW and edited in LR4 and thats pretty much it.

The girl in the red top left with the pole/flag/tube thing...and the girl in the black top left with a mouth/eye/nose full of sand...as well as a DISLOCATED Shoulder!!! Luckily all those Lifegaurds were there!
