I'm not getting much feedback when I ask elsewhere, so I'll see what you guys think. I'm getting this lens in the mail soon and something from my kit needs to go to appease the budget a little bit. How much do you think I would miss my 35mm f2 IS? That lens is my go-to for group shots or environmental portraits, but I'm thinking the 24-70mm f2.8 MK1 will excel in those areas, even if it isn't as sharp wide open. I also like the 35mm for wedding receptions, but I'm willing to lose a little sharpness for flexibility.

How often do you shoot wide open with the 35? For the 24-70 that I have, I have to stop down to f4 to get acceptable results. It is a great all around travel/photo journal lens but I would rather use a fast prime for portrait work if I am working with only available light.
