Driving home tonight the moon was glowing brightly in the night sky, so after i got home i ducked out to take a couple of quick snaps.

This is the result:

I remember years ago when i was in high school i did an astronomy assignment to go out and shoot stars. I remember wishing that it was possible to get a good clear view of the moon.... well these days.

Moon looks pretty good , got a bluish/green edge on the right side . Picture would look great if the stars were in focus and the BG wasn't a magenta tint . Nice try tho on the composite of two images . Keep at it tho !

It actually looks really weird when the stars are in focus too, hence choosing an OOF shot. I also pushed the BG magenta deliberately for a bit of interest. Still undecided on whether it works or not.

Original moon shot has the blue/green tinge on the edge. Any ideas on why?

Surprising too how many people don't get that its a composite.

Second time I've taken a pic of the moon..., and the first was that school assignment ;)

Actually done right a starry BG with the moon can look great but they have to be in focus and the moon will always produce a soft glare around it . Black BG are best looking . Take a look at this image from APOD : http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap010906.html (external link)
