hey all I'm looking into buying an older FF camera...however probably not for a good amount of time...my main goal is to get a new APS-C camera-be it 7D II 70D whatever the next one that comes out...and then sell my 40D, and pick up an older FF camera...

i've been looking at 5Dc and 1Ds...I thought I read somewhere that canon won't service the 1ds any longer is that true? also i guess there was a mirror replacement issue with the 5Dc...is there anyway to know if it's already been done? how much does it cost to get replaced if it hasn't yet?

I'm getting more anxious to get one seeing how cheaply they are going...5Dc's for under $600 are very tempting to me

Canon will fix the 5D mirror for free.

As said above, Canon will do the mirror fix on the 5D for free if it hasn't already had it done. And your best bet for both camera to be serviced is a privately owned shop. Canon doesn't service either anymore.

is there a list somewhere as to what is serviced by canon, and what isn't?

i know discontinued lenses aren't...but i imagine it can't be the same for cameras with the high rate of new bodies

I don't know exactly of a list, I'll try to find something, or if someone else knows of a list.

Just to give an example of how long they service certain bodies, the 1D Mark II was just stopped in March, IIN however is still serviced.

so i just called 1-800-go-canon...he said the 5D is still serviceable...i asked if the shutter needed to be replaced is that something they would fix...he said yeah, then mentioned the mirror issue as well...

don't know why i didn't ask about the 1ds now that i think about it...although i do feel like i'm leaning towards 5D instead anyways...

that does give me a little peace of mind though

Just warning you, if you go to a 1D body, you won't go back to anything other. So be prepared if you go that route.

Whatever you do, don't pick up a 1D body as already stated. I had the 1D and 1D MII before the 7D and would really like to pick up a 1DS or 1DS MII body. Not that I think either of the full frame bodies will produce pics leaps and bounds beyond what I am already getting from my 7D. But I refuse to get rid of my 135L and think on the FF's it will be perfect.

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

betwwen 1ds and 5d, 5d all the way. Now if 1dsmk2 then I would wing 1 series side.I have to sell my 5d, as well as 5dmk2 as I got 5dmk3 but my opinion is not biased. 1dsmk1 is very very old slow camera with not that great high iso.
