can you post how take these amazin shots. Do you have to get within inches of the wasp? The only macro I know how to do is reverse lens and extension tubes and I basically am shoving the tube into the insect so any light is blocked and if its a fast moving or dangerous insevt I can't do it. I see these amazin in air shots etc how do you guys do it please post

I'm new to macro, and my shots are crap to the others posted here, but... I use my 100mm macro lens and get to about 5" away. The problem with being that close is you lose depth, so you have to decide if you want an "in your face" shot or depth. You could back away a bit & rely on the crop, but I don't shoot good enough or have good enough equipment for that, so I go for the closeup. To view any settings, click on the pic (It will take you to Flickr), click 'Actions' in the top left corner, then 'view exif info'...it will tell you all you need to know about the shot.

Hope that helps, but like I said, I'm new to this & am just winging it, too.

They look very good to me. Every bit as good as my best shots.

Lovely captures.

Thanks a lot guys! I can't seem to get that 'smoothness' that you guys get, though. I have a few shots of some bees that are like that, but I don't know what I did different with those than the ones above, so that leads me to believe it's human error or a settings issue.

lovely reflections, not sure what you mean by smoothness but certainly avoid shooting in harsh sunlight.

Thanks...and what I mean by 'smoothness' is, look at LordV's Odds & sods thread. The look of those photos is my goal, they are so 'smooth' or soft, yet so detailed.
