Elph 300HS, black finish coming off body

Anyone else experiencing the finish on black Elph 300HS's coming off?

My camera is used very infrequently, and always in a case. In spite of that the "paint" finish is rubbed off on all four corners, and six or eight other places.

I know it's just a little thing, and doesn't affect the images...but it bugs me, and I'm getting tired of touching-up with a brush.

i dont have a 300HS but i do have a 5D Mark II that has a similar issue. granted, i have a metal piece rubbing off of it (its from my BlackRapid strap) -- but still -- i didnt have this issue with my 50D! ... Canon BAD! :/

I haven't seen a black finished camera yet, unless it was of molded black plastic, that didn't wear off. Back in earlier days, it was called "brassing", since the camera shells were usually brass. Chromed bodies were much less subject to this, because the finish was an electroplate on the brass shell, rather than a paint coat. Photojournalists' cameras were prime examples of this wear, and it's rumored that some poseurs actually rubbed the finish off their cameras to give them that look.

You just had to day something I didn't notice it before but my Black SD990 does have 2 spots where the black is rubbed off, it's always in a case, My Black S100 is so fare nu-marked

I wholeheartedly agree Jon......but not in a 4 month old camera!

Maybe you got the proverbial "bad copy" and maybe it's something covered under warranty and you could have it replaced? however if you touched it up with paint it may to late for that.

Well, you said it's "always in a case". Unless that case sits somewhere absolutely stationary, there's probably a lot more rubbing against the camera than you might think. If you carry the camera and case around, be assured the camera and case are rubbing against each other every moment you're carrying them. Leave it at home and maybe it won't rub. Leave it in a car and it'll pick up vibrations from the motor, road unevenness, etc. . . .

something metal in the case rubbing the camera? such as a zipper or metal button? also maybe when you use it rubs, such as leaving it on a table. just some thoughts, unless the rub marks are were youre fingers are located.

Mine has a white hue right about where it says Powershot 300 HS. Hadn't given it any thought until now!

As long as the photo quality isn't affected I'll accept it as adding character to the camera!

This is unrelated but how do you guys like the 300hs? Im thinking of getting one for my mom, who just wants a camera to record moments, nothing crazy. Shes also not too tech savvy. Is this an easy camera to use? Thanks!

Personally this is the best P&S on the market in IMHO. Great quality photos as well as videos. Easy to use. I suggest purchasing a second battery.

Agreed!

A GREAT little camera, despite the cosmetic paint blemishes.

What surprises me is how very well it works on full AUTO.....perfect for candid/street type shooting, or for someone who literally, wants to point and shoot.
