I need to take photos that convey emotion not through the subject matter thru photos I am supposed to use the lines, texture and color to express happiness. Any ideas??? My assignment is due tomorrow, I did it wrong the first time. Thanks

Hi Stacy and welcome to POTN - stick around and I think you'll find it to be an interesting place. I'm not quite sure what you are attempting here. I assume this is for a photography course and you need our help to come up with a solution to the assignment? How did you go about doing the first attempt that it was considered incorrect?

I'm guessing this a conceptual exercise the teacher the teacher has given - trying to demonstrate how the thought process interacts with visual imagery in an abstract manner. But then I'm just speculating :D. - Stu

yellow, lines receding into the distance, but upward & wavey, sort of like a rainbow. Other pastel colors in a wavey, upward rainbow... just some thoughts.

Think it through. What would make you uneasy, jagged lines or straight horizontal lines? What colors make you feel calm and what colors make you feel hot? What colors when paired together create the most tension? How do all of these things work together to help you say what you are trying to say? Again this is your assignment. I'm not try to be mean but I don't think giving you the answers will help you in any way.

I understand what you are saying with colors and lines just finding it hard to find things to photograph

Thats were the creativity comes in. I would recommend looking at the work of Ernst Haas, William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, the B&W work of Aaron Siskind (lines) and the street work of Henri Cartier Bresson. Those are great places to start for inspiration.

black/grey/blue = sad; yellow/orange = happy
dark forest = sad/fearful; flowery meadow = happy
concrete pavement/empty road = sad/impersonal; pedestrians/lit up storefronts = happy/dynamic

at least those work for me . . .

Cheers, Damien

Take a photo of someone else's photo, and slap your own watermark on it. That would certainly invoke some emotion in some folks

You mean, you should just shoot an orange or red wall to convey happiness and passion??? :) Seriously, you don't just take photos of lines. Even lines are embedded in your subjects. Unless you literally shoot a line of thread against a color background....:)
