Finally got my first L lens (70-200 nonIS) for this part time hobby and these are a couple of the first shots from it. Not as great as a lot on this thread that I have seen but they do give me encouragement to get better. Great photos by all, I especially like the work of Tom O. and Chuck Clark, awesome work guys :). Any comments/suggestions or tips are appreciated.

This modified Chevette was pretty cool as you can see the driver is seated from the back seat in the middle of the car.

Very nice captures Chuck and sjammer. I have only been lucky enough to be at one NHRA event so far and want more as it is just so much of a rush feeling/hearing the power go right through your entire body and it was hard coming back to the local track after experiencing that but I do love watching the sport since a buddy got me into it a few years back. How do you guys manage to get so close to the action, is it via press passes? What's the secret :)
Cheers!

Brishi - not so close at all. I just used my 70-200 and cropped the photo. From where I was sitting I had to shoot across pit lane and part of the road course track. I agree with you that NHRA events are in their own class. I try to tell people, but end telling them you just need to go to an event to understand.

Sjammer, Great Pics!!

Brishi, everything I shoot is 50-75 feet away shot with a 70-200 2.8 and cropped.

Chuck & sjammer thanks for the info, have had my 7D for a little over a year now and not really had a lot of time to play with it yet (due to health issues), so have just started reading through the manual and a couple of other e-books lately to learn more about it and how to use it properly. Also as I stated earlier just got the 70-200 2.8 non-IS very recently, so now it's just a matter of getting in some shooting time...

Thank you very much brishi. Very nice to be grouped in with the likes of Chuck Clark.

Best tip I can give you is practice, practice and then when you think you have it practice some more. Time behind the camera will get you where you want to be. I am still learning on a daily basis. Never stop learning and trying things.
