Your signature is confusing. What body? You have a 24-70? Then get the 10-22 efs?

Try the 14mm (22mm on the 20D), various brands. I am liking it a lot!

That's a huge range of variation!

one of your examples is 18mm, the other is 10mm: that's almost twice the field of view! Perennial favorites are the Canon 10-22 and the tokina 12-24. If you can find the 10-22 for $650ish, go for the canon, else give the tokina a good home. Either will make you very happy. I can vouch for the canon, and I've heard enough good things about the tokina from others to believe 'em, collectively.

Of course, if you want constant 2.8, there are many fewer options open to you.

He has the 1Dmk2N... I don't think that the canon 10-22 will work with it.

... but what do I know.

Get the Canon 17-40 f/4 of the Canon 16-35 f/2.8. It sounds like you can afford either one.

If you just want a wider lense than the Sigma 24-70mm, why don't you consider a prime like the Sigma 20mm 1.8 EX DG?

Can't use the Sigma 18-50 or 10-20 you posted either. The DC lenses won't cover larger than the APS-C format. You'd get dark corners (like no image). Your options are the 16-35 L, the 17-40 L, the Sigma 12-24, Sigma 15-30, and the Tamron 17-35, IIRC.

The 17-40 works very well on a 1.3 crop body.:D

If you don;t need that little bit of aperture then the 17-40 will do you good, but if you need that extra f-stop definately go for the 16-35/2.8L. I have the 16-35 and it takes great pictures. The sigma 12-24 is the only lens that might possibly be a better choice (only because it is wider)

Just my opinion,

After long consideration I chose the 16-35L over the 17-40L and am sure I made the right decision. I think that the lens works best on a body with a bright viewfinder.
