Hi all,

Well, I couldn't wait until I had access to my laser engraver again, so I just took one of my large pieces of acrylic and rigged a small table up with the flash underneath. Not sure if I like the effect or not, but the image is at the very least, interesting.

Definitly see more facets in the crystal, but not sure If I chose the paper right, or perhaps too much flash power...

I like it, you may want to try an independent light, other than the flash, just a thought, I like the way it shows off the facets, I couldnt have waited either.:D :D

Neat effect Tony. I like this sort of experimental lighting. :D
This sort of reminds me of a shot I took around five years ago with my old Olympus E10. I had a Blue gell over a Vivitar 283 that was off to the right and triggered by a light sensitive slave.
I hope you dont mind my posting it here to show you what I came up with.
I was going for a Frosty look.

That blue effect is definitly neat. I've been wanting to get some gels for a while now, but after getting my alien bees, I've been a little short on cash, so perhaps next year. I like that effect. It turned out fairly interesting, especially with having to work within the e10 limits (I actually still have an E10 here, bought it when it first came out and had it both for my wife and as a backup for my s1 pro, later it just became my wifes - still have it and use it, but its hard to get certain types of shots with it).

I wonder if there would have been a way to illuminate the bottle without lighting the cloth? That would have been a slick effect, making the bottle truely shimmer - perhaps if the flash was somehow placed behind the bottle, aimed a little up, but behind the sticker so that the majority of light woud be shine reflected by the refraction/reflection of the glass? I don't know, might not be possible, but I like the concept.

Thanks Tony, I'm sure there has got to be a way, possibly using a snoot? I tried to keep the light from hitting the backdrop directly, and as you can see, most of it appears to be reflected from the bottle. Just a cheap and cheerful experiment that turned out OK.
I had my E10 for quite a few years as well, and even equipped it with the Lipo Grip, which was probably one of the most useful accessories ever for that camera. I ended up giving the camera to a friend that was interested in photography, but had his OM2 stolen.
Do you have a gel holder for your Alien Bee's? I had found a seller on ebay awhile back that was selling used gells from a theater of some sort. Just a thought. ;)
