Sold my brick today, wonder what to pickup next? Any comment guys? 24-70 mk ii is tempting but a bit much IMO and I think I am aiming for another prime.

I am not sure whether I want another zoom at this moment. 35L seems like a pretty good option for me now.

Why did you sell it? What do you shoot?

As tommy said, what do you shoot? On my 5D II, i love the 24-105mm when i shoot outdoors. I use two cameras, a 5D II + 24-105mm and 1D III + 100-400mm and i love that combo outdoors. I also have the 16-35mm and i rarely use that since the 24 usually covers me on the wide end and i am missing so much from the 35-130mm range (since the 100mm goes to 130mm on my 1D).

But it all depends on what you shoot. I COULD use the 24-70, but i love the extra reach. I either use 24-35 range or 85-105 before i switch to my 100-400. the 24-70 and 70-200 are a great combo. Are you looking for a wider range lens, or a prime. It all depends on what you want to do with it.

The 24-70L is a "good" workhorse and great for studio.

I've been considering a 24-70Lmk2 instead of buying a 5dmk3 and save money :)

The 35L is a great supplement but its not a replacement for a zoom. I'd rather use my 24Lmk2 instead of my 35L (now coated with a layer of dust). I dont care for the weight of my "brick" but if I get a "brick mk2" I'll appreciate the newer sharper version.

The 24-105L would be a great outdoor walkaround lens. I would hate to shoot some events stuck with a 35L only. Zooms have their place and so do primes. All depends if your shooting available light or with flash fill/flash exposure and type of stuff you shoot.

The reason that I sold the 24-70 simply because it is too heavy for me to lure around for a day of shooting. I didn't think that at first when I am still shooting as a hobby. But as I start shooting part time for money, I always reach for the 50 f/1.2, my 24-70 just sit in my bag. That's why I sold it and free up some cash for another prime. I got the 17-40, that will cover my wide end. And the 50 is my workhorse for wedding and portraits session.

It looks like you have a nice setup even without replacing that lens. And since you were happy without using it much, maybe you just don't need to replace it. A wider or longer fast prime would be nice, depending on your style. Like 24/35 or 135.

I also sold my 24-70 and picked up 35L. Best decision I've ever made.
