My needs are simple.

I want to manually control power output on small strobes without having to be an acrobat.

Everything I've looked at seems to be setup for e-ttl use. Fine and dandy but to me it takes too much time to dink around with that. If I need a 1 stop change to a light I want to just move a slide or turn a knob. Same thing I've been doing for 30 years.

What I REALLY want is something like the Paul C. Buff LG4X that works wirelessly with canon flashes. Does anyone make something like that?

I did try the radiopopper setup. My RF-602's are more reliable.

If just for Canon flashes the Pixel Kings should do it for you.

You can control the flash from the camera and change the flash settings how you please. This works best for manual on the flashes. If you did want ETTL then you can only adjust plus or minus FEC I believe.

Never mind. Just realized that you didn't want these for Canon flashes.

All of the strobe control sets are not really that reliable(for small strobes, for larger studio lights they work amazingly).

The Pocket Wizard system with the AC3 zone controller is exactly what you want. But out of the 10 people that I know that own them, none of them use them for lack of reliability. They work amazing when you are trying to play around but the second you need them to work for real, they dont and are all kinds of messed up.

You can use canon's IR wireless to get the same control with the lack of reliability outside and it is line of sight.

To be honest Canon's 600EX RT is what you want in the end, it is all the advantages of the canon wireless(control of all aspects of the flash such as power, exposure compensation, zoom setting, high speed sync) with the reliaiblty.

Though you have to replace your entire set up for that and if you are doing a 3 flash setup it will be almost $1800 for the flashes and trigger.

At that point you might as well get a few AB400 flashes and vagabond minis with a cyber commander, which funny enough will give you an 2 stop of power and cost about $500 less for the same three light setup.

Pocket Wizard ControlTL makes it possible to do manual adjustments over a 6 stop range with manual control using the AC3 on top of the camera. The speedlites are ETTL on the FlexTT5. That's so they will accept the commands via the ControlTL stuff.

I use TT1 and TT5 units to control flashes and strobes. The AC3 allows me to vary settings, or disable them totally, from the camera position.

The Phottix Odins are brilliant with speedlites, in manual and/or ETTL.

does it allow to change/control remote strobe power from the camera? Totally not familiar with that one

I do realize that i need to switch to cannon flashes.

So the Odin system will allow me to use the canon or yonguo flashes on manual power and turn them up and down without a bunch of menus to scroll through?

The Canon 600 flash is not what I'm looking for. Way too much. For my budget. I can get 2 yn flashes and the odin receivers for less than one of those costs. Like I stated the ettl does not interest me. Just call me an old fart about that.

I will see ifI can find the manual for the Odin and check it out.

Yes if you are using cannon flashes plus supports M and ETTL plus zooms the flash head all from the transmitter on the camera. Really simple to use and you can have groups in both M and ETTL. They are fabulous. Plus supports HSS.

Just read the manual. Pretty cool system. Looks like it is the one I'm looking for.

Hate to retire the trusty 285 flashes, but time to upgrade.

Very easy to use and it has been 100 % reliable for me. It is much quicker and easier than scrolling through camera menus.

From what I'm finding online it look like the Odin is not compatible with the YN flashes. Can someone confirm this?

Not really a deal breaker for me, just means I have to spend a few more bucks.
