Hi guys 'n gals,

The weirdest thing happened to me last night when I came home and tried downloading my photo's from my CF card to my MBP. Like I've done hundreds of times already, I put my CF card in my cardreader and it didn't do anything. Weird. Took a pic, plugged it in again, and that showed. The directory got renamed AOS_@ICIPAH though. Obviously something wasn't right. Did somebody ever encounter this before? I googled and found only one such case - also with a Sandisk card.

I found some recovery software which could scan the card for free, and the files are definitely on there, but I don't really wanna pay 50$ to recover them (broke college student). Would anyone know of a free app or something?

Thanks in advance!

All the good apps and free apps I've used were not for Mac but I'm curious to hear what options are out there for Mac OS. I haven't looked before and don't have the time at this moment.

For what it's worth if you do have access to a PC my experience with Zero Assumption Recovery is excellent. It's free for recovery of images from memory cards but it's good enough and does so much more that I bought the full version when I saw it was on sale a few years back. Recuva also comes highly recommended and is free as well. It's simpler than ZAR from what I've checked out but should work.

I've seen this (external link) recommended, but I've never used it.
The demo allows you to recover one file to make sure you are happy with it, and it's less expensive.

Thanks a lot! Looks promising! It certainly is a lot cheaper!

I've used RecoverRX from Transcend. It came free with a CF card but I think it can be downloaded separately at not cost.
