my concern might be that if not placed precisely, it would affect focus and cause more problems. might be best to find a local repair guy to look as it.....

Thats exactly what I was worried about, I could see if there were small indents in the frame itself, but not mine.

I would not use crazy glue. For one thing over time it gets very brittle so the mirror action would likely break the bond. I would be inclined to get some clear RTV compound, dishwasher safe stuff and use that. It remains flexible and has decent bonding power. Some RTV's like bathtub or sink caulk have arsenic in them to prevent mildew. Once glued in place, cover the camera with something that is lint free. You don't want to trade a loose mirror for dust on the sensor.

If you are really brave, then go to http://canonrepair.wordpress.com …roken-main-mirror-repair/ (external link) where a mirror repair procedure is outlined. However, this is becoming more and more a common problem with the 40D so you might first of all give Canon a call and show displeasure. After all a recall was done on the 5D for much the same reason. The recall involved replacing the entire mirror box at no charge.

Oh, I am so glad I looked at this post again! Thank you John.I was all ready to buy a new tube of CG! Thing is, where I have to send it for repair is across Canada. So I am looking at probably 3 weeks plus.....and Sept 21, I am booked on a Grizzly Bear /Whale adventure:(..I will take a look at the link, thank you very much.Seriously.thanks!

I did see this link, and it talks about the plastic frame, not the mirror? Plus, me taking apart my camera will not happen, lol..

I will call Canon.

the 40d mirror fell off for me as well and it costs around 160 to fix
if you do a google on it, it seems to be a common problem for the 40d when you use high speed continuous shooting

John , I did it! Bought the sealant, put dabs on the four spots on the mirror with a toothpick, sealed the unit, Left it for three hours. It works! I shall see how long the stuff holds, but I am thrilled that it is holding now. Thanks again.
