I am considering buying the Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM EF-S lens. According to Canon this lens is intended for the 20D and the Digital Rebel but can it be used on a 1D Mark II body?
I currently use a 20D and 1D Mark II body and I have used my existing lenses on both bodies with out any problems. Does the Canon 10-22mm have something that prevents it from being used on the 1D Mark II body?

As always Thanks!

No, it cannot be used. The lens extends into the camera body farther than the regular EF line. If Canon was smart, they would produce an extension for regular camera body lines...

But then again. they'd have to be committed to the EF-S line...

The only way you can get it to fit would be with an ET-12 II (Canon extenion tube), but your maximum focusing distance would be very limited.

You can machine it just like people machine the kit lens to fit. You essentially screw up an expensive lens and it will take more $$$ to make it fit.

Certainly not worth it.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

The 10-22 on a 1.6 crop is like a 16mm lens.

The 16-35 or 17-40 would be your best bets if you are going to use that camera.

Not on his camera. With the 1.3X crop factor of the 1D m II this lens would be the equivalent of 13mm at the wide end.

either way i think it would be silly to get it and hack it. just get a lens that works from teh start so there's less chance of things gettign screwed up.

No, it won't work, get an EF lens not an EF-S lens.

Well if you'd be happy using it on the 20D only it's still a nice lens, for as often as I use a wide anlge, I could leave mine on the Drebel full time if I had a 1D.

EF-S are only for 1.6x bodies.
Sigma 12-24EX is the only lens that fits on any body.

Well, the Tokina 12-24 will fit on any body, and it will work on a 1.3x, but will vignette until about 15mm, where it then becomes usable. It will also work on a full frame body, but only from about 17mm on.

Farrukh is right about the 12-24 being the only really wide lens that is truly usable (and still wide) on any body, with full focal length coverage.

The lens won't even work on there. With the 1.3 crop, on a 16mm focal length from the 16-35, you still get a very wide angle lens.
