Which canon (or third party) lens in that range (50mm - 100mm) has the fastest focusing time while having good Image quality and decent sharpness?

Typically looking for a lens with low light capabilities f/1.2 - f/2.8 range (although it will be used with 2 off camera and one on camera flash).

Price is not an issue unless it is like $2500+ for a single lens lol

Some other information:

- Will be used mainly for dance floor (moving subjects)
- Will be used with 5D Mk III
- Looking for a lens which can focus quickly / accurately with Al Servo focusing method
- Has good image quality to be used in professional gigs

I currently use 85mm 1.2L but it misses quite a bit of shots due to slow focus.

why 50-100mm? I would shoot form far and use 70-200mm f2.8 IS II. 85mm f1.8 should also work fine. 135mm might be better.

85mm f/1.8 has very decent AF speed.

Most of the events I do, I try to elevate myself about 1 metre above the dance floor (stand on the stage etc.) and if I use anything more than 100mm it will be too tight.. I've tried using my 135L and it only does headshots / or maximum upto shoulders.

50-100mm range is more useable for me on the dance floor.

Might have to give 85 1.8 a try hmm.

70-200mm still covers 70-100mm of the range you're looking for. Not to dissuade you from the 85mm, because it is a great action lens, but it's always nice to have flexibility of focal range when covering action.

How is the focusing speed on the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II?

^, I second that. The 70-200 II is quite fast.

It has to be among 70-200 IS II , 85 1.8 and 100 2.0.

Given that you say you'll be tracking focus with AIServo then, excluding very slow lenses like the 85/1.2 and 180/3.5 macro, I'd be surprised if any mainstream lens would not be up to the task.

For common folk like me the 85 1.8 is the fastest. There are no instant focus lenses, but the 85 is dang close to it.

I would say the 70-200mkII is on par if not faster than the 85 1.8. Though for the low light you get more with the 85. Good luck and let us know what you find works. Maybe rent one of each and test side by side

if shooting from the stage where dancers are even 85mm would be too much IMHO. Not seen your pictures but when I shoot dance I am backed and user longer tele. If I am up close by stage then it is 24-70mm.

85mm f/1.2L MkI

Seriously, as others have said, the 70-200mm f/2.8L II is pretty damn quick.
