I don't see anything on the Canon web site for the upgrade (external link) regarding a date. The update does not seem to be available today.

Has anyone got any inside scoop on what date the release is supposed to be available?

Sydney 28 June, 2012: Canon Australia has today announced an exciting new firmware upgrade for the popular EOS 7D digital SLR camera (external link). Available for download from the Canon Australia website*1 from 7 August 2012, firmware Version 2.0.0 introduces a number of enhancements that will allow photographers and videographers to get more out of their camera.

This is from Canons press release in Australia.

This new baby should pop out tomorrow from Canon's labs. What a exciting day that will be! :) ..only a few hours left now until we get our hands on it.

Dawn comes to Australia before it hits Götet, so you better download from down under!

I dare not download and install a new firmware from the other side of the world while i'm half asleep on myyyyy preciousss 7D. :)

It's safest to wait until it hits Göteborg.

I don't know if anyone has this info, but if you were to order a 7D refurb from Canon this week would this new firmware already be installed?

Don't know, but since you can get it for free and easily update, it doesn't matter. If it's not there, just get it in there.

I've seen in the advanced firmware information that you have to set the clock in the camera again, after updating. Likewise, you also have to re-install lens data for all lenses you want to be able to correct for vignetting, chromatic abberation and distortion. This is true even if you only want to do what you already could do, with firmware 1.2.5, since the list of lenses in the camera is reset to default when doing the update to version 2.

You also have to update the firmware in the WFT-E5, if you have one, or the two will not play together. I wonder if they are going to publish that at the same time?

This is just for you who are trigger-happy when the firmware gets available.

Don't do that, you risk all your photos being upside down after the update :-]

But now you can press the Q button during image review and quickly access the "rotate image" command, so I think they have anticipated this effect.

There is also a fancy presentation Canon put together of what the new 2.0 firmware has to offer us.
