I really like number 2, especially the way the sun is hitting their hair.

I realize that the lighting on #2 is good..and that 70-200IS 2.8 also works wonders, but back to the posing stuff. Maybe another reason people like #2 is there aren't all those pesky arms and legs getting in the way. Sometimes when I do portraits I tend to crop really closely, to avoid having to decide where to put other body parts. Hands at the side, crossed, one-on-top, behind back, under the chin (never liked that one), on knee, elbow straight or bent, etc.
Just my ramblings on my weak points, I guess.
Mike

The lighting is beautiful in all of them. #2 just feels the most natural, and the last one too.

#1 is pretty good.
I like #2 and #3 better though.
Nice job on them.

it's a transmitter to a sunpak 555 manual flash, on a tripod. As it's a manual flash, I have the camera on Manual also. I set the exposure to the back ground, then move the flash the correct distance to give me the ratio I am looking for.
Remember, the speed controls the ambient light, and the aperature stays the same as long as the flash-to-subject distance stays constant.

The behind glow form the setting sun is just great...i love the first 2 shots. The third turend out great too...but i personally prefer natural light to flash.

they acutally all have the off-camera flash. I guess I balanced it better in some than in others.
