All in one 28-300 lens around a thousand?

Just got a 5D2. I have a Canon EF 100mm F2. Love it and it is very sharp. Being delivered tomorrow is a Tamron 28-75, but now i am dreading the lens change stuff when I was trying to find a 75-300 randge lens for around 500 or 600 dollars.

That got me searching for a very long range all in one lens, like a 18-250, 28-300 or something. 28-300 would be perfect and I don't shoote wider than that on FF

Problem is, all i see in the 500 range are cheaper Tamrons and I can't say i am thrilled at the thought of the 18-270 lens for 500. Then it hit me that I paid 500 for the 28-75, so i could send that back to Adorama and not even open it. That means I could spend about a thousand for a lens if there is something i could be happy with in the 28-to 270 or 300 range.

So instead of spending hours looking through all these lenses I though it might be quicker to simply ask for suggestions.

Also, if there is something that would replace my 100 F2 for portraits then I could sell it for about $425 and spend 1,500 dollars on a single lens for everything.

So, are there any real options that would be sharp that would cover the 28-270 or 300 range so that i could use just one lens and not have to go through the lens changing all the time?

The Tammy 18-270 covers the range, but just how good could it be for 500 bucks?

Any options in the 100 range if I keep my 100mm F2, or in the 1,500 range if I sold it too? Tammy, Sigma, Canon, Tokina, I don't care about the brand, I just want one do it all lens that would be sharp

Would it be more reasonable to just get a 70-200 range lens and then just get a nifty fifty for wider stuff and just use the 70-200 for poortraits and as a main lens?

I notice using the 100 F2 that on the 5D2 it is about right and I only wish it were a little wider so I am thinking I might be alright with 70-200 or 300 as a main lens that i would use all the time, and then just grab a nifty fifty for indoors shots and to have a faster lens when i need it.

I do a lot of portraits but I always use flash for that in doors or I am outside in good light, so would the 7-200 L lens be right for me? I could sell the 100 and send the Tammy back and have 1,500 and just get the 70-200 and grab a nifty fifty later.

Just hoping for some options.

Thanks in advance and sorry for rambling

On a 5DII, I can't imagine if would be any good when you consider it's ASP-C mount.

The Canon 28-300mm L is the only lens that will cover that range with reasonable sharpness in my experience. At f8-f11 it will likely be good enough in the studio but you'd still see some difference in sharpness versus a good prime like the 135L or the new 70-200s.

A 70-200 f/4 would be cheaper with better IQ if you can work with the range.

I would seriously love the Canon 28-300 L as a walkabout lens. I know it's rather large and weighty but it gives you a hell of a range with great IQ. The only problem is the price at around $2500 as I've just bought a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS L MkII and I've about run out of readies.

Then there it is. I am pretty sure the 70 mm side with FF will be plenty wide for me in 90 oercent of my shots, and I am thinking a nifty fifty for the only time I need a faster lens without flash and that is only when I am basically doing window light portraits indoors.

I had the 600 ef-s macro for portraits in doors on my crop and that was fine, and that would have equaled more than the 70 on FF, so I see no problem in the 70mm for pretty much everything besides the natural light indoor portrait thing.

So this is great news for me. I see Adorama has them, full usa warranty for 1,249 or so. I ordered the tammy from them and it will be here tomorrow, I'll just call them in the morning and say IO won't open it and that i want to send it back and add money with it and get the F4 L, perfect!!

Didn't you just barely upgrade to full frame? And you did that so you could use an all-in-one lens? Might as well go with a T2i and an 18-200.

A full frame camera with cheap and low quality lenses produces worse images than a cheap crop camera with high quality lenses

Consider a used Canon 35-350L. I traded my 28-300L for a 35-350L recently, getting the 35-350L for under $1,000, and selling the 28-300L for $1,800. I don't miss the IS since I used it mainly outdoors, it's smaller and lighter than the 28-300L. I find the IQ very comparable as long as you don't need 28-35mm, or IS.

As portrait is your main work, 70-200L will be better than all other zoom.

28-300L will not look good for professional portrait; but it'll be good enough for the landscape.

Canon 5D3 + Zoom (EF 17-40L, 24-105L & 28-300L, 100-400L II) & Prime (24L II, 85L II, 100L, 135L & 200 f/2.8L II; Zeiss 1,4/35)

you need to get over this...changing lenses isn't something to dread...if you want nice IQ you'll need multiple lenses
