This millenium-old game is more properly called "hurling," but it's so closely identified with Ireland, it's known by the longer name. Also, these images came from matches that were played thousands of miles from Ireland.

Imagine my disappointment when I was expecting to see scenes from a pub. But these are pretty cool too. Is this field hockey meets la crosse meets..... I am not exactly sure? So you have a stick, cool. You can pick up the ball with your hands.... ok. Are you allowed to progress the ball down the pitch while carrying it?

Looks like a game that could have some good visual interest in it... interesting.

this game is brutal...if you guys get a chance to watch it do so ...after 30 sec of watching you'll wonder how long it's going to take before some one gets carted off in an ambulance

My thoughts exactly; I thought Irish Hurling would be something you do after drinking too much Guiness... LOL.

Looks like a fun sport to watch, but I'm not sure I'd want to play it.

There is extensive information on this very ancient sport that is available online, (external link) from its traditional Irish home (external link) and from the U.S. (external link)

... isn't this played on the way home from the pub after too much Guinness .. i.e. hurling? ;)

Great captures .. but I don't understand the face mask with no gloves, but okay!

Nice job. We just got back from Ireland, great sport... Brutal! Hurling and Gaelic football 2 interesting sports. The roots of hurling are interesting.
