I need a 400x microscope, but would like to be able to connect my camera to it.

I don't know the price of microscopes, but would hope to keep it under $400.

I need it to have 400x, and that about all I know. I want to be able to connect my 7D or 5D2 for future use.

Can anyone give me some suggestions? I am not having luck finding anything of substance with my searches. All I can find are microscopes that you connect P&S cameras to.

Hmm, well I talked to them and they told me both accessory items are compatible with the microscope I link in the first post.

I had looked at this in the past and never came up with a microscope I could easily connect a camera to. What I finally settled on was an adapter that lets you put the microscope lens on the camera:

You will still need a platform of some sort for focusing. At 400x, I doubt macro rails will suffice. I've only used 4x and 10x objectives successfully with macro rails (and 10x was pretty tough). Anything beyond that, and it gets tough to illuminate the subject without a microscope platform lit from behind.

There are several fine microscope makers that either have the camera already built in or have an adapter already built in to the head. Jenoptik, Olympus, Nikon, Zeiss are some of the makers out there. However, your budget is way way underfunded for any serious work. You need a fibher optik light source, binoocular microscope stage, with power supply etc etc. You didn't say what the use is so if it's just slides you go one way, if it's PCB or close electronic work it's another. OFten times you can buy refurbs or rebuilds from secondary sources and save some cash that way too.

dont forget to check surplus shed weekly http://www.surplusshed​.com …tegory/microsco​pes_1.html They have some good used stuff sometimes and its way cheap. Also im sure you could find some sort of eyepiece adapter for your camera. They make tons of them for telescopes so I dont see why you couldnt find one for a microscope.

I am not experienced at all with microscopy but I have the impression that 400x magnification is very hard to accomplish in a way that provides good detail. The depth of field is so shallow that focus stacking is probably needed for high quality imaging.
