Local camera club competition is a set subject and it is on Relationships. I wanted to shoot something different and this is one of my ideas.

Steel and Flint or Man and Fire ..... does this work as a Relationship subject?

So this is a self-timed shot tonight and since it was very dark outside, had to use a high ISO

During processing I tried to bring out my old hands and love the sparks from the flint.

5DII, Canon 135mm @ F8, 1/320 sec and ISO 3200

the problem I see with this picture is your sparks look like mini christmas lights and the star pattern is from a high fstop which causes the smoke to look fake...

like the concept don't like the execution

So if God made Man & Woman....whats his excuse for Nikon...

I like the idea and the photo,
you may want to mess with exposure and even going for a brighter environment (overcast day)

Having light coming over your shoulder would also accentuate the lines in your hands

Good shooting!

There are two issues with this image as an entry for 'Relationships'. The first--in just looking at the image with no description, I actually can't tell what is going on. I probably would eventually guess 'someone lighting a fire', but I don't know. Second, the choice of subject matter seems to be trivially satisfying the theme of the competition--in other words you could group any two things that are vaguely related and say the image is about relationships (printer + paper, ball + glove). It seems to me that you need to do something photographically to bring out what that relationship is, not just that 'these things are connected somehow'.
