I know others have heard it with long telephoto lenses. "Wow that's a huge lens what are you compensating for?" :rolleyes:

Ive heard it a few times but I'm not funny or quick enough for a good comeback. Someone here has to have a great comeback.

Come on, help me/us with a good comeback for the next time I/we hear that.

Ps: I tried searching, but I'm not coming up with anything, or nothing specific to the topic. So if it has been said, I can't find it.

I would like to know too! Although I don't have a long telephoto, I do get the crack sometimes. I just usually tell them that I am compensating for... you know. They usually leave me alone after that.

Normally that's my response when someone makes a "huge lens/camera" comment. I just tell them I'm compensating for something.

Say "Really? I always thought it rather average... I guess it all depends on what you have to compare it to..." Then give a pitiful head tilt.

The longest I have is 100-400mm so I haven't come across with that question yet. but I would like to reply with "None, but I do have big hands and large feet" ;)

But I've had a few "how much for that big lens?" or "wow! that must have cost plenty" types of comments.

I find 500mm worth of lens makes a nice barrier against such questions...

I'm literally over ---------------> there instead! :D

If the comment comes from a woman and she's a photographer, just ask her what aperture she shoots at and then comment on the tightness of her f-stop.

After all, we do want to keep the demeaning photography-related vulgar sexual references equally distributed between men and women.

My responses:

(To Men) " This small thing?....Meh"
(To Women) "Nothing, everything I own is big, white, and hard"

Generally people that I've heard that from are also perverted so I don't filter my response.
