I was just wondering If the new 1DX is out has the 1DMk series now been discontinued?
I saw this mentioned in a couple of other threads as well.

the 1D4 is removed from Canons page so it looks like the 1DX is the only 1series they are producing now.

That figures, something thats been around that long and works well, and they take it away and replace it with something else, thats just not the same.
Now we don't have APS-H sensors anymore either ? Nice. Good job Canon.

You can still find 1D4's, but if you're in the market for one I wouldn't wait too long. I saw someone fishing for buyers for 3 of them in the "for sale" section down below. If they'd kept it around, I think it would have impacted 1Dx sales, it's just too good.

No, the 1D X continues the 1D-line. All that is different from the 1D4 to 1D X essentially is a larger image sensor. The 1Ds-line on the other hand may be done, but will come back called something different and maybe in a different body, but there will be a high MP count 35mm dSLR again from Canon.

Thats the thing though, we don't need more Mp, we need better quality Mp, very similar to the ones in the D series cameras. If you want to print huge prints, get a medium format camera.
Fast focus, quality Mp, and a camera you don't mind taking along on a hike or two. Just have to wait and see what Canon comes out with.
I am glad Canon finally figured out we don't need a 30 Mp camera to get great images.

Would love to get a medium format camera, unfortunately also not interested in spending $30k. The beauty of the 1D line is that they were always separated for two extremely different kinds of photographers. I find it hard to believe the Canon would completely ignore the pros that don't care about frame rates...but as you said, only time will tell.

My understanding was that both the ID and IDs lines were being merged into the one line.

The 1Dx is a very nice body its true, yet it is more or less a direct descendant of the 1D line, there are a number of 1Ds characteristics which I value which are missing, market leading DR and MP count among them. There are also a few 1D features I would never need, like the high frame rates, high ISO counts etc.

The editor of Amateur Photographer explained the diferences very nicely in this weeks edition in response to a general question. His wrote something along these lines - You can have fast frame rates and low mp counts, or high mp and low frame rates UNLESS you are prepared to spend big money.
