Don't know if this is a great price, but it's the lowest I've seen in awhile. Probably the lowest it will be until Christmas. It was $1049 until yesterday.

I paid the same ($1014) from Amazon a couple of months ago. Too late for a price match for me. Still, I've taken some great shots since then, so no biggie.

I don't know if it is because the Australian dollar is worth more than the U.S. dollar but we can get them over here now for as low as $899. Tempting I tell you.

Do most people use this lens for portraits?

$979 is certainly a very good price, but I think I'm going to hold out in hopes of potentially seeing a better price at Christmas. Absolutely no guarantee the price will go lower, but during one recent Christmas sale, it could be had for around $900.

But if you're in the market for this lens right now, I would swoop it up at this price!

^^^I got mine for $914 last x-mas.

But this is still a great price for a new one. I'd gladly buy it now if I didn't have it already. Think about all the pics you're missing out on between now and x-mas.

I agree. It's a great price for a fantastic lens. Anyone truly in the market should not pass up this price.

The only reason I'm holding off is that I don't really need this lens quite yet. My 70-200 covers that focal length quite well. I'm also a little gun shy on making any more purchases for a little while because I just purchased a 5D Mark III, a 16-35, and two 600EX-RTs. My wallet is sizzling from too much activity and it's time to let it cool down a little.

But without a doubt, it's a lens I will get one day.

Bryan
