I've tried out a lot of lenses and I think I've got a kit that meets my current needs fairly well. But at one point I had lots more fast primes, a superwide, a macro and lots of manual glass. Even though I sold them because I didn't need them, I keep finding myself wishing they were in my bag. I've almost re-bought the 85mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.4 at least a dozen times. Same with another ultrawide. Does this happen to anyone else? Maybe I shouldn't have sold them off. Or maybe it's just lenses that I know were excellent, but that doesn't mean I need them.

yep, I sold my 24-70 2.8L and regretted it so I bought another. Same goes for my current 50 1.4 :)

Focus is just as good or better, so it's all good.

Not yet, but I'm thinking of trading my 24-70 for a 24-105. We'll see if I feel the loss.

Yep I want my Rokinon 8mm back. But it funded an important lens that has gotten much more use than it did. Still a super fun lens I will buy again sometime.

Not yet, but I have my 17-55 on eBay at the moment, and still debating whether to pull it. Pretty sure I'm going to regret selling it as soon as it's gone, but not sure I have the money to keep it right now. :(

What's going on? Are you out of a job? the 17-55mm 2.8 is a sweet lens!

Just got back from vacation and spent a bit more than planned, and this was one of my most recent purchases.

But now you're further convincing me that I need to find a way to keep it around! May have to go with my gut before I really can relate to this thread.

I just repurchased an UWA. I've rented the 10-22, 8-16, and 11-16 and also owned a 10-20 before. Came to the realization I like having an UWA in my kit and got a great deal on a 10-22 I could not pass on so pulled the trigger on it over an 11-16. Having owned a bunch of primes at different times, I don't have a hankering to repurchase them but it's just b/c primes helped me realize I prefer zooms.

I sold a 28-135mm IS to fund a 24-70 f2.8, and ended up wishing I had kept it as a walkaround lens because of the IS and extended range. I recently purchased a 24-105L IS in a 5D Mark III kit and that has completely done away with any regrets in selling the 28-135mm IS. But yeah, I really missed it for a while.

That's the thing, I had the primes and kept my f2.8 zoom. So I know I don't need them. But I still keep wanting to get the primes again (too, not instead) because they were fun to have.

I shouldn't have dumped that 10-20. I sold it because I didn't use it much, but there are still times where I really want to have one.

Maybe I need to stop selling lenses and just save and acquire slowly. In the beginning, I just wanted to try lots of lenses, so I would churn lenses and buy/sell often.

But if you don't have the money, you don't have the money, right? The good news is that you can easily re-buy that lens. I'd only be stressed if it was no longer in production or hard to find.

Yep. I miss my 75-300 mkI with its super slo-tech sandpaper autofocus. Canon and 3M must have collaborated together on it.

;)

In all honesty though, the closest thing to a lens I wish I never sold was my C/Y adapter ring. I left it on the body of my 300D when I sold it. I only have one at the moment, and I want to have a second for each of my Yashica lenses. That way they're always ready, and I don't have to worry about wearing out the ring.

I sold my 70-300 IS (micro-motor) USM to fund a 100-400L. Now I have to go buy a 55-250 for when I don't want to lug the 'beast'. Should have kept the 70-300.

I have sold none of my lenses for two reasons:

1. The lesser used ones still get used (mostly) - e.g. the EF-S 55-250 is a lightweight substitute for the 100-400 when I need to travel light. I must admit I don't use the 35-80mm, as it was a "freebie" addition to the collection from my fiancee's old EOS film camera. And I keep the Tamron 70-210 for nostalgic reasons.

2. I'm a collector/pack rat, I admit it. I'd rather have something I use rarely that I already paid for than not have it. Unless it was worth a stupid amount of money. If someone offered me $400 for that Tamron 70-210, I'd sell it in a second. But it or a similar model sells for $80 on B&H.
