Hey all, I am looking for a great book on post processing. I already have books for lightroom and photoshop but I do not want a book that tells me HOW a software does something. I want to better understand each element of post processing regardless of HOW you do it with a software.

Some of the "how" to PS, LR, etc. just say, "pull this slider to __________." I want more.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Marting Evening books are excellent for "in depth" technical coverage of both Photoshop CSx and Lightroom.

A very good "classic" that is "about" Adobe Camera Raw but good material overall on Raw processing is "Real World Camera Raw". I'm not sure what the most recent "revision" is, but I'd say it's a worthy addition to your library!

Camera RAW for digital photographers. It will help you understand what the captured data means, and what you are doing to that data when you perform various post processing functions. It will teach you what things to do in RAW conversion versus in post conversion in a JPEG or TIFF format. This book will help you get the most out of the data your camera sensor captures, and teach you how to configure the camera to capture the best data. I also see you are right up I35 from me. I have the following books I am getting rid of. Contact me via private message or email for more info: bills at austin dot rr dot com

Camera RAW for Digital Photographers second edition - Rob Sheppard

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom3 Streamlining your digital photography process - Mat Coalson

Lightroom3 book for the Digital Photographer - Scott Kelby

Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshoip CS2 - Bruce Fraser

The Adobe Photoshop CS3 book for Digital Photographers - Scott Kelby

iLife '08 iphoto iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, iDVD - Michael E Cohen / Jeff Bellow

The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers - Scott Kelby

On Digital Photography - Stephen Johnson

Complete Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Digital Photographers - Colin Smith/Tim Cooper

Scott Kelby is not my cup of tea, but he is certainly poplular, different strokes for different folks

Real World CS
Real World Camera Raw

These two books have been the best of many that I've bought for understanding the basics.
Real World Camera Raw is awesome for understanding what it is you're doing with a RAW converter, whether you use ACR or not.

One that I'd recommend is The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Book: The Complete Guide for Photographers by Martin Evening.
