I have read it several times now since you mentioned it in another thread and have also read several other threads on color profiles and i am curious why you chose a workspace of Prophoto RGB instead of Adobe RGB?

As a reminder, personally i shoot in Raw using the aRGB space and i set my monitor to sRGB as you mentioned, but i am not clear about the workspace of Prophoto RGB vs the aRGB. Lastly, my desired output will be my canon pixima ip8500 using glossy paper, so am i correct i would choose the sp1 profile for printing profile?

Thanks for the help!

ps if anyone else knows the answer please feel free to post!

I ckd out the canon website again for my printer Pixima ip8500 and it says prints in wide gamut, but does not specify how wide. Again, do i print using the Sp1 profile which matches my glossy paper or should i use the workspace profile for printing as well?

I notice that in my version of CS2 I don't have an option for Pro photo rgb, is it available somewhere, or am I just missing seeing it?

Yes, print with the printing profile from the maker. First soft proof with the profile in order to preview (roughly) your print and then print with the printing profile set in PS and "No color management" set in the printer driver.

From one RAW shot converted to ProPhotoRGB/sRGB/aRGB/BetaRGB and the same adjustments to all four. Tiff/16-bit/300 pix. Monitor calibrated.
Printed on IP5200 - Canon PaperPro - SP1 - PS7 Color managed. Prints match monitor almost perfect and I can't see the difference between the four of them:confused: Was my workflow incorrect? Forgive me for typing almost in morse code, long day and it is late. Just wanted to contibute but as I re-read the post I don't think I made too much sense or said everything I wanted to say:o I'll check tomorrow with a clear mind.

I don't believe that he "chose ProPhoto over aRGB" for the workspace. That is, I don't think that it was showing a preference for any particular color space over any other color space.

He simply needed an "example" color space to use in Raw Shooter Professional (RSP) and ProPhoto was as good an example as any other. The important thing was that it had to be a color space different from the one that was the default workspace in Photoshop, because he wanted to illustrate how Photoshop was going to deal with that image when it was later opened in Photoshop, where the workspace was configured for a different color space.

OK, just to recap to make sure i have this flow right! Set monitor to sRGB, Shoot in Raw aRGB, Set RSP and Photoshop to either aRGB or ProPhoto workspace, Print using paper profile for printer(in my case SP1 for glossy paper for Canon printer) and turn off all color corrections in printer driver.

I forgot to ask how i can find out if my monitor can handle a bigger profile(aRGB) opposed to sRGB that i currently have it set too? I have the ViewSonic VX924 ?

thank you for replies!! keep them coming please!!!!

Robert_Lay is correct, Prophoto RGB was an example. See also this: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=122151

300Dplus: you see no difference because
a) your workflow is correct
b) the image does not contain colors out of printer gamut (larger gamut color space has no effect)

With larger color spaces we make it possible to represent VERY strong colors, most photos do not have those, at least in dominant way.

Thanks for the link...i read it and what i dont understand is how can the color profile be larger than the profile you captured it in. If i shoot raw aRGB, isnt my color gamut limited by the aRGB that i used to take the picture?
