Hey guys, I need some quick advice and don't know where else to turn. I'm ordering a tailor-made suit, and I can't decide between two or three buttons for the jacket.

It's a charcoal, single-breasted suit. I'm 6'1", and normally around 185 pounds (I'm probably a little heavier now, but now much). Not skinny, but not overweight at all. Its main purpose will be job interviews, but I want something that will look right in any formal situation.

I already ordered it with three buttons, but now I'm having second thoughts. I searched through pictures online and saw a lot more two-button jackets than three.

If I go back down there today or early tomorrow, I can probably change my order, but I can wait very long. That's why it's urgent. So which is it, two or three?

Thanks.

Oh, and to keep this on topic....... I like cameras. :D

They have a few examples.

For single breasted ones, I think they look more modern when done up quite high, so three for me. You can leave the bottom one undone.

A large, open, double breasted suit would suit two better.

Show us a photo when you get it!

I'm a similar size Mike and all of my suits are single, 3 button.

Cheers,

Mark

I'd go with the three button.

Three button kackets were quite vogue last year and a couiple before that. Their popularity is wanning now. Two-button jackets are traditional and never wrong and unlikely to ever be.

I wear dress shirts, ties and jackets everyday and like to think I am somewhat abreast of these things...hope it helps.

Thanks for all the quick responses, folks. I think I'm going to stick with the three button. I'll post a picture when I pick it up, but it won't be ready for a couple weeks.

Three button is a more classic look. I personally hate two-button coats. Seems too undone. The rule (as I've always understood it) is you have three buttons. You button the top two, never the bottom. That...is how a suit coat is supposed to look.

Remember to show us! ;-)a

I thought that was a waistcoat, but as I don't even own one, don't quote me on that.

No, suitcoat. I own a good 2 dozen suits. Each and every one, a 3-button. They're just more classy.

See, I don't even know what a suitcoat is. I am with you on three buttons, but I have only heard of a waistcoat having the bottom button undone.

Hope the guy doesn't fail the interview because he had one too many buttons!

There's clearly an opportunity for opening a dry cleaning shop in your neighbourhood ... or even in your house!!
