Got the 24-105mm f4 L lens in October, but have hardly used it... It is always on my wifes camera!

Should I buy another one, or should I get a Sigma 18-200mm DC for my wife. I'm sure she'll be very happy with the extra length.

Women tend to notice things like "That red stripe doesn't match my dress as well as the other one?" so be careful...

Your wife has taste! Do you really think you can palm her off with one of those counterfeit lenses?

If they are so good, why don't you have it.

Or, as Jon suggested, get a Canon 24-70L and share them. But then she would have the 24-70!

no no, because he could explain..."well, I'll take this one, cuz it only goes to 70. I want you to have that one. You'll get more use out of the extra length". Unless you want the 24-105- just switch it around.

You forget the all important width, my friend. :)

But then again, wide plus long is a winning combo. Give her the 18-200 and get your 24-105 back immediately.

Hey Dave, I though that even a whiff of third-party lens being mentioned would coax you out of the woodwork

Maybe you are the man to pursuade her to go third-party?

So she should be happy with a Sigma with a red stripe...

You also have the option of 28-135. But 24-70 sounds like a good choice especially for low-light settings.

mdr,

You are dealing with a significat problem. Your wife has looked through an L lense. This means that she may certainly be able to tell the difference. It may be when she prints her pictures, but I think she may notice. Also the sigma 18-200 is not rated high. I have the 18-125 which barely beats the kit lens and sometimes I think it doesn't even do as well as the kit.

Wow, impressed with the degree of chauvinism and paternalism shown in some of the responses!

Oh, I see, women don't understand photography, and it is apparently funny to equate lenses with dicks. Not up to the usually high standards in these forums, and worse, showing a complete lack of wit...

No, relatively merry through most of the day actually. Yes, I'm expecting some "time of month" comments...

However, I would be embarrassed if my wife or daughters read this thread, which is a shame for this forum I think because it is usually really useful.
