This ^^^

The only thing "boring" about those lenses is that they aren't extremely different from the norm. If you have an ultra wide or fish eye lens, you'll get some more unusual shots that people aren't used to seeing. If you use a wide aperture prime, you'll get different shot than people might be used to because of the very shallow depth of field it offers.

If all of those lenses give you only boring shots, you're doing it wrong and you'd only force interestingness out of making using cliches and tricks...

Either shelf your camera or go out and explore interesting scenery.

Boring in what way? Boring doesn't come to mind especially the 24-105. Kit lens tend to be marketed towards beginners and they need to be affordable. The lenses you mentioned all are decent lenses for the money. Your typical consumer whos in the market for a camera, wants the whole package and i doubt canon will sell many t4i's with a a 70-200mm 2.8 IS. :-)

I hope that canon make a standard kit lens for all the cameras
and put in the 50mm 1.4 as a kit lens for all

There will always be some people that don't like ANY lens. We all have different styles, different focal lengths that suit what we want to do best. For some people, 18-55 may not be the range they want to use, it doesn't mean it isn't the ideal lens for somebody else's needs.

As for "boring", what you do with it is up to you. I have seen great images shot with all those lenses. If you mean they don't have anything dramatically unusual about them (like a fisheye or a tilt shift for example) well, no, of course they don't, they're kit lenses.

A kit lens, by definition, has to be something of a jack-of-all-trades. It is probably going to be the only lens the new buyer has (for a while at least) so has to be able to cover a wide range of duties. A fisheye may be much more interesting, but that is no use as your only lens, you only use a fisheye on rare occasions, and most people will never use one at all.

If you don't like the kit lens, then don't buy one. Just buy the body only and a lens that suits you better.

To be fair, canon does actually package some decent lens' with certain camera's. For instance, the 24-105 f/4 L is a great lens. If you search around you'll notice that people seem to love it. I know I use mine a ton. But for many people a DSLR is not a tool in the way that you or I use it.... to them its another toy - or a step up from their usual cell phone pics.

Take for instance my mother, I love her to death, but she couldnt use her DSLR to save her life. I've gone over the basics with her but she still leaves it on automatic and just goes with it. for her, the 18-55 is a wonderful lens. Its wide enough to get the whole family in without a fisheye, at 30mm or so takes "normal" looking shots, and at 55mm zooms in enough for "portraits". She actually hates using my lens' when I let her borrow them. I really dont think she would ever understand a prime lens ("What do you mean I cant zoom!?")

Kit lens' work for the average consumer by coming as a cheap package to keep costs down while producing a very usable focal range for most "soccer moms"

Why?

The 50 f/1.4 is a nice lens, but for most people it isn't going to work as an only lens, they will want to go wider a lot of the time, especially shooting kids indoors. A prime has a fairly narrow set of uses, which is why zooms are always the best choice for kits. You have to consider the end use.

Now, if you want a 50 f/1.4 as your kit lens, then that is easy. Buy a body only and a 50 f/1.4

You have an easy solution, that gives you exactly whatyou want. Why should everybody else be restricted to 50mm in their kit lens, just because that is what suits you.

Kit lenses need to be able to be used by the majority of people purchasing the camera. Those focal lengths and prices meet the criteria needed to be bundled with a camera so that people can get value and usefullness for their $$

Boring is normally used to describe a particular focal length that one might find.

For example, 50mm is so 'normal' on ff and therefore some people find it boring.

The kit lenses you listed are not boring. But yes they are probably not be the best lens for any job ;)

I agree, and you arent kidding about people and auto mode, I was at a wedding recently and I was amazed at how many people had DSLR's....HOWEVER, I noticed that the majority of them stuck in auto mode :) So yea kit lenses will suffice for the majority of people and they dont need anything special,a lens that does everything for them is prob the best thing for auto DSLRers.
