I received a new 24mm f/1.4L II today and there is no date code. I know Canon stopped putting date codes on the new 70-200mm f/2.8L II but did they stop on all new lenses?

Is your serial number 7 digits or 10 digits? If it is 10 digits it will not have a date code.

I'm pretty sure Canon has dropped the date code, it gave us too much information to quibble over.

Gesh I found the date code, UA0605. I was looking for a grey printed number and this one was etched which I could only see in a very bright light.

Canon has NOT dropped the date code. For some reasons, only certain lenses lack the code.

My 24-105L has a "UA" code... My 35L arrives tomorrow brand new from Amazon, I am sure it will be UA as well (or UZ).

My 70-200 has no date code, but a ten digit serial code. It is located on the barrel of the lens.

just a few of my thoughts...

I've just sprung for a 24 1.4. It's been on the shelf for a while - a December 2011 UZ date code.
