Apparently on the D800 he was able to set the minimum shutter speed on his camera to 1/1000 and then let auto iso do its thing. But the 5dmkIII only allows for the minimum shutter speed to be 1/250. Which makes it useless. So odds are Dan has to play around and set a higher than needed iso just so in shutter priority the shutter speeds go up. Pretty annoying for what he does.

Ahhh I see

So you shoot in M just set the shutter And f/stop then let auto ISO go? What do you set the minimum and maximum to?

(While birding)
With Nikon I shot in AV. Set the minimum shutter speed to 1/1000, auto iso maximum to 3200 and adjusted my aperture usually between 2.8 and 5.6.

So far with Canon I shoot in TV. Let auto iso go up to 3200, let the aperture fluctuate (usually bounces between f4-f8) and adjust my shutter as needed.

I will shoot M when I get into a situation where the birds are flying by be frantically. Like shooting a woodpecker up in the trees.

I will try more methods with the 5D3 before I settle on how I like to keep it.

When I'm not birding and doing everyday snaps, I'm usually in AV and let the auto iso go all the way to 12K+.

ohh right, you will be in Okinawa, which is the southern most part of Japan, so I guess the weather will be a bit similar to what we have here.... and yes, its very close indeed, there's even a direct flight from Okinawa to Cebu I think
