That's a little steep for me right now. If I'm going to spend $60 / bottle on something I'd rather grab some absinthe, chartreuse or a nice whiskey.

Can anyone suggest a decent camcorder? Or at least a favorite brand? I lost the one I had - a Canon Vixia something. Well, more like misplaced. I went to Costco because I needed one to replace it that day for filming a football game. The new one is a Panasonic V500. I might just keep it, but if I can find something better that suits my needs, I'd rather go for that. Oh, and recording in Progressive mode (not interlaced) is an absolute requirement. Normally I've seen this listed as 60p in the specs. The other nice thing about the new Panasonic I got is that the folder structure and encoding method are identical to the Vixia I had. I'm pretty sure it's AVCHD. Oh, and it needs to have an SD card slot.

So... any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure my T2i is rolling shutter, and I need the football video to be smooth. Wouldn't the T4i probably be the same? Also, I had to film a couple clips with my T2i last year and it was a pain to re-encode the video so that the team's game-film software could read it. The files from the camcorder work just fine. Although this would be a great excuse for a T4i...

Maybe I'll just get a Canon XA10. That's only $2,000.

The first digital-media camcorder I used was a Sony Handycam, and I was never very pleased with its performance. I suppose I shouldn't discredit the whole line, though; the higher-end units might be fine.

You know, it's funny. My original intention for getting a DSLR was purely for video. But I can't really use it for my current uses. I don't want to leave the shutter open for a 2-3 hour football game. That'll burn out my sensor in no time.
