Thinking of going for a D600 as its newer and I can use it in crop mode so my 50 turns into an 85 and it's still 12mp... Idk if I can't sell the D700 or get enough for the D600 I'll just keep the D700.

Sell the D700 and get the 105 Macro VR.

I know I've asked this before, but when buying from B&H should I get the protection plan as well? I always feel inclined to get it for the longest period offered, too. Is this a wise choice?

I never buy those things. If you have a problem with the product you simply return it.
