Does that mean the Brick 2 will be available soon?

I think it is due next month? If not delayed again. I am guessing they stopped production on that lens a while back and now the supply is running dry. So more and more suppliers will be going "discontinued" until the new one arrives for them to sell!

I noticed the brick is also missing from Canon's own site so that does suggestion version II should be released sooner than later.

Just saw this thread about the "Brick" and I did a search of the 24-70 on B&H. Holy crap the new one is $1200 more than what I paid new for mine back in 2009. If I had to repurchase Canon glass I have now I don't think I could afford to. Definitely would have to go with affordable Sigma, Tamron, or Tokina glass.

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

Yeah, sadly Canon is raising prices 40-60% on each new release. Hurts a bit, but what can you do. If people pay, they will keep raising.

Maybe this will drive the prices down and give me an excuse to pick one up. II would be nice, but that price tag is just a tad much.

I was eyeballing the 24-70 II, but will be waiting for prices to drop slightly ($100 or $200 from launch price) and than try to snag one on a Christmas rebate, where they do $400 off or whatever. If I can get one new for like $1600-1700 I will be all over it. But I really will not pay more. If it has IS it would be much more appealing for the money asked.

I'm really hoping the optics have improved drastically to justify the price. If not, even with the rebates I don't know how appealing it'll be. Anyone have any guesses on how much of a hit Mark I's in used price will take? I'll pick one of those up if they're <$1000.

It is a good chance the price will be around $1000 for the current mark I's when the II comes out and everybody starts to upgrade. The market will flood a bit, then recover shortly after to a slightly higher price. Much like the 5D2 did with the 5D3 release. They sold as low as $1450 and $1500 shortly after release and rebounded some.

You might find the opposite to be true, since the new version will be much higher priced than the predecessor.

I have a 70-200 f/2.8L IS I bought a few years ago new. I just checked KEH for used prices and this lens is currently going for about $1500 which is $100 more than when I bought it new. I'm guessing folks that want a particular lens but can't afford Canon's new prices will likely look for older versions and the prices will go up do to demand. There's a used "Brick" at KEH going for about $350 more than I paid for mine new. I used to think gold was a good investment

Glad I purchased mine a while back. As others have said I suspect a newer verson is on the horizon.

I know. If Canon comes out with a 135/2 II or a 135/1.8 IS and I haven't yet made the purchase of the current one, I will have to bump up that lens up on my priority scale to prevent paying more for it.
