I know. If Canon comes out with a 135/2 II or a 135/1.8 IS and I haven't yet made the purchase of the current one, I will have to bump up that lens up on my priority scale to prevent paying more for it.

If you really want to spend more than 1200 bucks on something.... invest in medium format...

I recently made the jump, and:

I have not had this much fun shooting in a long time.

Glad I purchased mine a while back. As others have said I suspect a newer verson is on the horizon.

well the newer version has already been announced...it's just been delayed...

according to canonrumors.com it's supposed to be hitting shelves mid-sept.

Umm aren't we talking about at least $12,000 for a Mamiya 645 plus the cheapest digital back and that isn't even starting to look at lenses?

I'm sure your MF is awesome but that's a pretty big jump from $1200 to $12,000. Also the 135/2 has been going in the high $900 if you wait until rebate time.

Ha Ha

Canon is out of their minds with this decision.

The "brick" just became the best investment Ive ever made. I bought mine NEW 5 yrs ago-- probably can sell it for what i paid for it. Lets see

$2200.00 for the new brick that has marginal improvements over the old

$1200.00 for the old brick thats still better then the new tamron

1200.00 for a Tammy that vignettes. But it has IS so it must be good:rolleyes:

and lets be serious,, sigma is out of the thought process for me on this

People are gonna pay it so canon is going keep on breakin it off. Im using my primes more anyway. Another Bonehead move by canon. Its gonna be just like the 70-200 version 1 v/s version 11 situation. I know version 11 is a bit sharper and has a bit better contrast-------nothing that cant be duplicated in LR with +10 in the contrast and sharpening sliders

Im refusing to bite on some on this stuff canon is doing.....How much better do you really need with some of these products ? And i guess the bigger question is,,Why pay it when some of these improvements are duplicated in Post with some minimum adjustments ?? ----are people this gullible

Canon's new flash especially comes to mind.

I don't see a parallel there. Small improvements in sharpness versus having full radio ETTL flash control with out having to fork $$$ for a pocket wizard mini and flex system. To me the radio control is huge, I just wish I could justify the costs at my hobby level.

It is nice to have. But canon has discontinued the 580 and i also believe they discontinued the 430....so now you are forced to buy the expensive alternatives

Whats about the thousands that already have pocket wizard or other trigger systems ??

For me, I will continue to use the 580's and when i cant get them, for the first time, if canon continues this BS, i will be looking aftermarket. Ive been a very loyal canon customer, since 1974, but what they are doing now is just plain stupid. Lots of examples come to mind especially the MKIV situation. I still use a 17-35. I have a great sharp copy. Cold day in hell before I step up to a 16-35.

Some products, the aftermarket products are pretty close. Sigmas 85L comes to mind. Its very close to the 85L if you can get a good copy.

I Plan on keeping my brick. For the extra 1000.00 canon wants for the version !!......I putting towards a 300MM F/2.8

I'm lucky in that I got my brick from Nicksan and it's the best one I've owned, and I've had 3 of them. It's very sharp and focuses perfectly on my 1DMKIV.

I too think Canon is nuts with their astronomical pricing lately, but if people will pay it, they're going to charge it.

My brick has been my go to lens for event photography, but lately it's just sitting in its case as I use my 70-200 and 85L and 50L, along with 16-35 much more.

It kind of reminds me to look back at photojournalists. There's a somewhat well-known one named Karl Grobl. He makes due with a 70-200 and 16-35 for over 95 percent of his work for years now. He will use a 50 1.4 when he needs some low light work, but unless you specialize in something, it's really all you need.

As to the medium format comment above, forget the price. For many of us who shoot moving objects, sports, etc., it's just not suitable.

I'm still surprised it doesn't have IS, especially considering the price. Sucker better have prime optics for the price.

You are totally right. Instead, they put IS on the two wide angle primes they introduced so as to separate them in the market.

You can't fix stupid.

Yeah, better hope Nikon releases an updated version with VC for that to happen.

Thats exactly how its been working for a while now. Nikon will invent one for 2000.00 and canon will change the tune. Thats one reason why I am going to pass on the 1Dx. Nikons D800 has incredible improvements in the sensor in the shadows. the 1Dx went another direction. While there are some concerns with the 800, the improvements they did with the shadows and blacks with that sensor leads me to believe that canon will figure it out and offer something in the MKIV's place to compete with the 800.

Yeah, I wish Canon started to play the leader instead of the follower.

Oh well, my best piece of gear is a Nikon-mount anyhow. :p

They did, it's called the 5DIII.

Do you really think they are going to slot something in between the 1DX and the 5DIII?

I'd love to see it but it ain't happening any time soon, that's for sure.

I seriously considered the 5DIII as a second body, but I dislike banding intensely, and it's got it in spades, even at ISO 100, in the shadows. It sucks, plain and simple.
