I'm really hoping the optics have improved drastically to justify the price. If not, even with the rebates I don't know how appealing it'll be. Anyone have any guesses on how much of a hit Mark I's in used price will take? I'll pick one of those up if they're <$1000.

Well from what I have read, the 70-200 II is a pretty big improvement over the V1 so i wouldn't doubt that this would be the same. mfg technology changes and with cameras having more MP and being higher quality, this is probably what will happen to every lens they make eventually.

It is a good chance the price will be around $1000 for the current mark I's when the II comes out and everybody starts to upgrade. The market will flood a bit, then recover shortly after to a slightly higher price. Much like the 5D2 did with the 5D3 release. They sold as low as $1450 and $1500 shortly after release and rebounded some.

When I started watching costs late spring the 5D2 was in the $1600-$1700 range. now starting to see them in the $1500 range or lower depending on what you get with it.

You might find the opposite to be true, since the new version will be much higher priced than the predecessor.

I agree. Once they announced the price of the new one, it seems the prices jumped. I've been watching used ones go for upwards of $1,300 where I have read that's what they were selling for new just a short time back.

Ha Ha

Canon is out of their minds with this decision.

The "brick" just became the best investment Ive ever made. I bought mine NEW 5 yrs ago-- probably can sell it for what i paid for it. Lets see

$2200.00 for the new brick that has marginal improvements over the old

$1200.00 for the old brick thats still better then the new tamron

1200.00 for a Tammy that vignettes. But it has IS so it must be good:rolleyes:

and lets be serious,, sigma is out of the thought process for me on this

Im refusing to bite on some on this stuff canon is doing.....How much better do you really need with some of these products ? And i guess the bigger question is,,Why pay it when some of these improvements are duplicated in Post with some minimum adjustments ?? ----are people this gullible

Whether the Tamron is better or worse seems to be very subjective depending on your criteria. I have seen photos and reviews which would suggest it is a better lens and I have seen the opposite as well.

As to the needing better glass.. Well cameras are getting better by leaps and bounds. Why would someone keep paying $6k for a new camera every two years and use glass made 15 years previous? At some point, technology improves the quality of the lens as well.

People are gonna pay it so canon is going keep on breakin it off. Im using my primes more anyway. Another Bonehead move by canon. Its gonna be just like the 70-200 version 1 v/s version 11 situation. I know version 11 is a bit sharper and has a bit better contrast-------nothing that cant be duplicated in LR with +10 in the contrast and sharpening sliders

Im refusing to bite on some on this stuff canon is doing.....How much better do you really need with some of these products ? And i guess the bigger question is,,Why pay it when some of these improvements are duplicated in Post with some minimum adjustments ??

IMO, paying the extra for the V2 70-200 is not just for the sharpness and better contract but also for the AWESOME new IS.
In my case, I moved from V1 to V2 because someone offed me $1500 for the V1. I only paid $1000 for it 2 years before that. Beside I found a BNIB V2 for only $1900 :D

Now try to justify the 24-70 V1 to V2 price tag with no awesome IS? Seems as if it's gonna come down to sharpness, contrast, etc.

It gonna be tough since I only paid $850 for it (spotless condition with box and everything else) :). I'll wait around until someone offer me $1500 for my Brick 1 and I find a $1600 shipped deal on the Brick 2 :D

Since you're already in the market for a 2, I'll give you $851 for your 1. ;) More than what you paid.
