Westcott makes a good backdrop. Is that design what you want?

I will be new to portraits, and this one is on sale locally only used twice for $60. I think that's a very good deal and someone suggested I start with something "grey". Is this not a good color scheme? Personally I think it's "alright".

I tried googling some images of it and saw one of a family in front of it. It looked alright.
Ideally I'd like plain black or white, but I dont have a lot of lights yet, and figure this might give me some practice before expanding and buying higher cost stuff. I would probably be using this around my other gym to do some promo photos, but probably not starting off just charging people and running a studio with it yet. It seemed simple enough in color scheme that I could use it around the gym for promo photos and little stuff. Would like to get some practice first before going all out on the studio thing and charging.

If you all think the color is horrible and I should never use it than I can forego it.

Get what you want, dont buy it just because its local and its somewhat cheap. Its a nice enough drop, but all dark drops require a separation light, either a hairlight or an background light. If you dont have much lighting can you spare a light back there? I agree that gray is the most versatile, I have a homemade drop similar to this one and a roll of gray paper so I'm not disagreeing with the choice, just want to make sure you are doing it with all the considerations.

Ok thank you, this is great information, that's why I posted here b/c I figured some of you all would have some stuff to say that I didnt know.
How did you make youre home made backdrop or is the homemade one the one made out of paper? Do you use a hair light for the grey one you have?

The link above will show you how I made mine. I used black dye to get a black and gray mottled look similar to the one you linked to. And yes, I use a hair light when I use a gray drop. Here is a shot using the homemade drop.
