Thanx for all the comments. I was set up in my blind in a mowed vacant lot surrounded by tall grass and trees, and he was hopping around looking for something to eat. He was chirping non-stop, but I never saw the parents. My guess is that they were forcing the young to hunt for themselves and were watching from a distance. He (?) seemed quite fearless and even hopped into the tall grass and was thrashing around, hunting for food. The other one never left the nest... it better learn how to fend for itself if it wants to survive. The blind worked great, and the baby even got too close to focus on for a bit (I was using my 400mm f/5.6). I'm going back to that same spot in a few days (and the reason I was set up there in the first place), to get better shots of this guy:
