T2i with remote (RC6)

Hi folks. New to Dslr and just bought a T2i. I am confused about something. The RC6 remote suggests "immediate shutter release" or "release after 2 seconds". However, on the camera, under drive modes, I can only see a "self timer/remote" mode which enforces 10 seconds delay. Is it really the case that I am coerced to a 10 second delay when using the remote?

I have the UK equiv. 550D - haven't got it with me at moment so can't tell you exactly what you need to set - but I can confirm you are not restriucted to 10s delay when using a remote... I am sure there is a way to get instantaneous remote operation as well....I believe the 2s delay is to help avoid vibration from the mirror but not essential. I will investigate tonight and advise accordingly....

I have the rc6 as well. It doesn't work like that, but I can't get to the camera. Best advice try a few shots in different modes. Should only take a few minutes.

I don't have T2i, but under drive modes on my T3i there is single, continuous,10 sec remote, 2 sec self timer, continuous self timer. I use 2 sec self timer with my remote and it works.

Hello guys. Thank you for the replies. Any further specific information you can give me is appreciated. So far, I have only been able to get the wireless remote to trigger under the self timer / remote 10 second drive mode. I cannot get it to trigger under the 2sec mode or the continuous mode (neither of which have the remote symbol associated with them, however) unless I am doing something wrong.

I am after self portraits here, and it will be awfully tedious if I have to walk back and forth to the camera. Do I need to purchase any additional piece of equipment here?

I think you set the thing to 10Sec/remote on the camera, and on the back of the rc6- there is a slider switch to select between 2 sec and instant.

I use the remote listed above- it provides the cables for your camera plus a number of others- and it works much like the shutter button- half-way- it focuses- full depress- it activates the shutter. Much nicer than the RC6.

When you use an IR remote control like the RC-6, it's true that you need to set the camera to self timer/remote control drive mode.
But note the slash (/). It means it's self timer if you use the camera's trigger button, but otherwise will receive commands from the remote control. So if you actually use the remote, then there's no self timer active. It's just the same setting used for two different purposes.

So when you use the RC-6, it will either take the picture when you press the button, or two seconds later. If you use the camera for video recording, then having the remote set to instant means it will trigger still photos taken, but if the remote is set to 2 seconds it will instead start or stop video recording.

The remotes connected by wire are nice for other purposes, but couldn't control video shooting until with the very latest cameras.

I fooled around with the t4i. When you set the drive mode to 10 sec/remote you can use the RC6.

There is a two-second delay switch on the RC6 that controls the two second delay or not.

The bad news is seems like there is no way to turn off the self timer lamp. It blinked when ever the remote was used. I think one of the prior suggestions was good; black electrical tape.
