At the moment I am using a P sized holder with 85mm grad filters on a tamron 17-50 on a 1000D. I am getting a 5Dc+17-40L and need to know will I need to change my filter holder+filters to avoid vignetting issues.
Thanks in advance :)

Is that the Cokin holder? If so, all you'll need is a ring that fits the new lens. If the new lens and your old lens have the same size filter ring, you'll be golden. Otherwise you'll need a new ring for the new lens.

Hi and thanks for the reply. Yes, it is just the plastic cokin p sized holder and I realize I'll have to get a 77mm ring adapter for the 17-40, I'm more concerned about vignetting or the holder being visible on the 5Dc with the 17-40, on my XS with the tamron 17-50 the holder is visible sometimes at 17mm when turned at an angle.

Sorry, I didn't read your question fully the first time.

Like Rick said, you'll be fine. Both are 17mm on the wide end, so they both have the same FOV.

The P may be a bit narrow for the 17 on FF. My 24-70 will cope with the wide P holder on FF, but for anything wider, I'd be leery. I don't have 72 mm Cokin rings, so I can't try my old 18 mm on my T90 to give you any idea there. Certainly, if you don't have the Cokin WA holder (which has only a single slot), you'll need a new holder. In that case, I'd just bite the bullet and get the Lee or other holder for 4" filters.

Thank you Kirk, Rick and Jon for the replies. Ive been wanting to upgrade to the Lee system anyways but worried my hitechs wont fit it, the hitech dimensions are 85mmx110mm. I'd eventually be upgrading the hitechs to the lee grads anyways but need a stop gap inbetween as I can't upgrade all at once.

They won't fit. iirc the Lee holder is either 4x4 = 100x100mm or 4x6 = 100x150mm. 85mm x 110mm won't fit unless you tape them in .

The 3 slide holder from Colin in the P size will vignette. The wide angle version of the p holder that holds just one filter should be ok.
