I recently loaned my 50d to a son-in-law and when I got it back I noticed a problem.

When the camera is set to manual and I press down on the shutter button, the camera begins to release sequential shots even after my finger is removed from the shutter button.
The only way to stop it is to switch it back to auto. Auto seems to work fine.
One other note, no errors are being logged.

Any ideas?

Regards
Deb

Thanks everyone for the ideas. Normaly with bracketing on it will only do three consecutive shots. This baby just keeps on shooting...

The 50D is one of the Canon DSLR's that has a history of "stuck" shutter button issues although from your description (works OK in Auto) that doesn't seem to fit. Therefore I think you have to explore the possibilities in firmware that might cause the issue.

I think initially I would go through the steps to return the camera totally to the factory default settings. If that doesn't work do a reflash of the firmware and then retest.
