Do you have either an android or iphone? You should be able to go to voice.google.com, or just google, "google voice" and then sign up for a free number. You can even pick the number and local area code.

You can make/receive texts AND calls to that other number, on your personal cell phone as long as it's either running Android or it's an iphone.

I've been using it for years. I never use my personal email or cell number for CL stuff.

Thanks for the reply, and info. It doesn't help me,though. I don't do any internet stuff on my phone. Don't even know how. Don't text, don't twitter, don't facebook. I am from the Stone-Age. I can't see that teeny-tiny little screen, and I need a full-size keyboard to type on. Maybe some day I will move into the 21st century.

Don't respond to the buyer to say anything other than "Sorry, all sales are final and the sale is as-is with no warranty." and maybe tell him to screw off. Also, make sure that when you post an item for sale to include that it is as-is with no warranty and all sales are final.

It's been said many times...do not respond.
If you feel you must out of courtesy, send a copy of his own e-mail to you that states the lens was fine.
Just add in that you're sorry he dropped and damaged the lens.

And it is - or should at least be - a well known fact that what is said many times isn't necessarily true. Even if said by many different persons.

Just add in that you're sorry he dropped and damaged the lens.

And that is a really bad advice, since it is based on a random assumption. You have zero knowledge if the buyer have dropped and damaged any lens. Unless you happen to be the buyer, which seems to be very unlikely.

OP here.
I plan to do just that in the future when listing on CL. Should I do the same on e-bay? I think e-bay is different, transactions are not face-to-face and the buyer gets no chance to inspect the item before paying for it. On e-bay, I offer a 14-day, buyer pays shipping return if not as described option. I know I think twice when I see no returns on e-bay.

when you sell on e-bay you can write any policy you want but it's buyer who choose to decide what he wants to do and seller's policy doesn't mean anything.

Over ten statements saying "do not" and several more alluding to it.
Nice try.

I wouldn't buy from some of the responders here. "As is" - "sale is final" and even suggesting to tell him you dropped it! Amazing!!

OP again. 48 hours since the first and only message from the purchaser. I chose not to respond at all. I hope he has gotten the message.

Well, guess how many who says politician x or religion y or car brand z or mobile phone w is the best...

I did say in my previous post, that many people saying the same thing doesn't make it into the truth. Lots of people said the world was flat too. Lots of people said that earth was the center of the universe and everything rotated around the earth.

Even if you find 1000 people who say "don't respond", it would still not automatically be the correct route to go.

I want to acknowledge the fact that you sent an email to him following up on the purchase - I respect that a lot. Not too many people in my experience go out of their way to check up on someone they've sold to and I try to do this on anything I sell over the internet, and I think it's a good policy. +1 for that!

Sorry to hear about the tough situation you're in, though.

You don't have a choice on eBay  I have on my profile that I don't accept returns, but that doesn't actually do anything at all. If the buyer is unhappy then you are forced to refund him. I sold my old Rebel on there and my buyer was mad that the packaging made the camera dusty, and that the plastic finish was wearing off. He wanted $200 dollars off because of that, which I said no to, then went to eBay and escalated it to a claim, where I had no choice but to refund him once my camera came back.

Love the new avatar, Maureen. I think Skip needs to contribute a layout of you in G&N. I'm looking forward to it. ;)

By the way, OP, Maureen really Luvs me, so you can respond. In fact, you may wind up with a title of world's greatest lens seller, or LensHopper, otay, Grasshopper?

That is why I am putting you on my "Ignore" list.
