Saw this bear this morning along the Alaska Highway, on my way to Whitehorse, Yukon. Had only the G12 with me but still did a quick U-turn to take pictures.

This is the oddest coloured bear I've seen.

I do not think it is the Kermode, but it may be a Silver or a Glacier Bear also sometimes referred to as blue bears.

Just a thought.

Interesting!

Even the light coloured glacier bears are not common. My images were taken a long distance from Skagway ... about a two hour drive. Even further from Juneau.

I've forwarded the images to the local conservation authority for their info. Hopefully will hear something back.

Also forwarded the images to the author of that article.

Must be my bear day ... dogs just chased two black bears away from the cabin, out the driveway. Sigh ...

Out in Manitoba (northern part) and the adjoining NWT...there are reports and have been an example or two of the result of Polar Bear and Grizzly mating. I don't know if there are any Polars in your area....so this maybe extremely unlikely.

We also have had a confirmed sighting of a young Polar Bear (couple of years old) wandering many, many miles away from the Hudson Bay (usual area) ....this was highly unusual....but in the past decade or so there have been some strange happenings, regarding bears, out here..

What lesmore mentioned is my thought also, a grizz and polar bear get together.

well, we're now hiking with the shotgun and "bear banger" with us. Unfortunately, it is tough to take the DSLR with me too ...

Momma black and two cubs are hanging around the cabin. Not causing problems, just enjoying the abundant berries!

There is also a grizzly sow and cub in the neighbourhood.

And the bear pictured above was 3 km from the cabin.

This is high density for bear territory.
And soon the elk will be returning from the hills.

So I found this concept of a cross between a grizzly and a polar bear pretty interesting and did some searching around online for articles. For anyone else interested, here's a few links to read more about it:
