Now for the BIG question.... If I order all the parts for my 7D and assemble it myself can I save USD $700.00????

Maybe as the economy world-wide goes to **** Canon can release a Heath-Kit 7D and start a new trend?? :)

Yea, not going to happen.
Sensor assy alone for a 5D2(havent priced a 7D) is $1k! that is a VERY small piece of an entire puzzle..it would never happen..imho

Now, if you have a model they no longer service, and the current model is out of your budget, this is what you need to use...
But, I am not going to ever invest more than 50% of the cameras worth(working/100%), or else I will scrap it and sell it for parts and use that $ to buy the latest model, or whatever I needed ATM..

As I can see on the single spare part code, the 7D, 60D, 600D doesn't have the same sensor... interesting.

It doesnt have the same PART NUMBER! BIG difference. And not at all odd as EACH one has different output electronics*okay, the T2i/T3i probably identical, 60D/60Da identical, etc)...so, the part is only going to relate to the respective model, even though the sensors ARE the same.
Do you think Canon would waste time and $ developing separate 18Mp sensors for the: T2i, T3i, T4i, 60D, 60Da, 7D, and EOS-M(IIRC it also has the 18Mp sensor)??
No, they wouldnt...
But, to get the desired output, speed, etc they have to design the output electronics differently. And also, on models like the 7D, possibly use a stronger AA filter...
Which is why you have different PART NUMBERS, for the SAME sensor, but different "packaging"...

Atleast, AFAIK! ;)

There is absolutely no way we could get a 1Dx service manual, sorry.
It would contain a lot of proprietary information, so Canon would not release it externally

Lannes, thanks a lot for the information.

In addition to camera parts catalogs, can you also post lens catalogs? I have been looking for a 70-200 f4 IS parts catalog, but could not find it online.

You can try Pro Camera Repair http://www.procamerarepair.com/ (external link). They sent me a parts catalog for a 28-70 L lens.

I seem to remember seeing some of those a while back. I'll try and find them again and post back with what I find.

Update: I knew I remembered seeing them somewhere....

A few more are listed throughout that thread...
I didn't see the 70-200 f/4 IS in there, but I'll keep looking...I've seen that one also.
