Heya,

So, this guy was nice enough, but I really, really wanted to try to help him out. I just didn't have it in me to stand there for a long time when I was on a limited time frame myself. I don't know Nikon menus/systems, so I couldn't walk him through it really, and other than that, seeing auto-flash meant auto-exposure I assumed, so really, I probably wouldn't have been of much help anyways. Regardless, nice fellow. But the lens hood on reverse and the pop-up flash was killing me.

There were several people today, all with their lens hoods on backwards. I couldn't understand it.

Another Nikon shooter, wide angle and close up:

Everyone with cameras were pretty polite today, everyone was courteous and waited their turns, etc. Was good.

+++++++++++++++

This kid killed me. Totally didn't care about these manatees. Bored. But loved how she was taking photos.

It's just a place to park the hood. Useful if you don't have anywhere else to put it and you know you're likely to use it at some point.

Yes but only when the lens is in the bag. Once the lens is on the camera, ready to be used the lens cap is off, the hood is correctly mounted to protect the front of the lens from bumps and knocks, when I'm rolling along, and ready to protect from flare when shooting.

If you are going to go to the trouble and effort of carrying around a camera on a strap, it should be always ready to shoot.

I'm surprised he didn't have a lanyard for the hood when not in use. Those Nikon people sure like their gear hanging off of them. I wonder if he has the lens pouch hanging off his belt.

I do this as well. I'm not a huge fan of lens hood clutter in my camera bag. If I'm not using/needing it for it's intended purpose then I usually have it on backwards on my lenses. :)
